Hurrah! Another Silvey book!
If there's a military knife writer alive who needs no introduction, it has to be Mike Silvey. With five quality books under his belt, plus contributions to four editions of U.S. Military Knives Price Guide and a two year stint authoring KNIFE WORLD's "Military Edge", (the writings later collected in Military Knives: A Reference Book), Silvey is 'the man' when it comes to U.S. military knives.
Silvey's latest contribution to the literature is a new book entitled Pocket Knives of the United States Military, and it's well worthy of the Silvey reputation. This book follows the format of the last two Silvey works, a well done hardcover book filled with beautiful full color photographs and brief descriptions of top notch knives. The overall size of the new book is smaller; reduced, as Mike tells me, to keep the pocketknives in proportion to their actual size. It also serves a secondary purpose in helping to keep the book's cost down to a remarkable $24.95. That's a mac-and-cheese price for sirloin, folks!
Pocket Knives of the United States Military is organized into the following sections: Introduction, The First Folders, World War I, World War II, and Postwar (which covers knives up through the late 1980s). Coverage ranges from the expected pages of TL-29s and 4-blade utility knives to rare switchblades, demolition knives, OSS and CIA folders, and far, far more U.S. Navy rope knives than I ever knew existed. The photos are as beautiful as expected, and the knives pictured the finest that could be procured. A bibliography is included as an added bonus.
Whether your interests lie in pocketknives or military knives, Pocket Knives of the United States Military is a beautiful and useful reference at a bargain price. Highly recommended.
