in the mail now - the FEBRUARY 2008 issue of "KNIFE WORLD"
____________________________________________________________
FEBRUARY'S KNIFE WORLD contains the following articles:
... "NEHI LEG KNIVES" by DENNIS ELLINGSEN
A history of the famous advertising "leg" knives Remington produced
for Nehi soda pop. There are an awful lot more reproductions out
there than authentic examples, and after you've read this article
you'll know exactly how to tell the difference!
... "THE BLACKJACK CLASSICS" by MICHAEL BLACK
Here's a look at some current models in the premium series offered
by Ken Warner's Blackjack knives. These knives have a reputation as
outstanding performers, and the author's tests back it up!
... "SAM BUTlER" by B.R. HUGHES
A member of the 2007 ABS Journeyman Smith class, this Arkansas
bladesmith is certainly among the ranks of up and coming makers.
Legendary knife writer B.R. Hughes has the scoop for us.
... "WHY WE COLLECT - Exploring the Mysterious Malady" by RICHARD WHITE
A look at the benefits of collecting, and why some folks are driven
to it while others haven't the slightest interest. Interesting reading!
... "ONTARIO'S OK RESCUE TOOLS" by FRANK TRZASKA
You might be surprised to learn that our military knife guru's
recommendation for a cutlery item for our troops isn't a folding knife,
or even a fixed blade -- exactly. It's Ontario Knife's new rescue tool
design, created to get our fighting men and women out of a bad spot
as quickly as possible. Read this one -- it might help save a life.
... "GRECO'S SHEFFIELD BOWIE" by BOB CAMPBELL
Mr. Campbell reports in on one of the amiable Kentucky maker's
creations, an inexpensive handmade knife with obvious ties to a
historic past. Looks like a good way to find out how a traditional
bowie might work in the field...
... "COLONIAL SELECTED AS SUPPLIER OF CUB SCOUT AND GIRL SCOUT KNIVES"
by KNIFE WORLD Staff -- Cutlery traditionalists will be pleased to
see that the latest Cub and Girl Scout knives are made right here in
the good old USA, and have a look that readily brings back memories
of those produced a half century ago. Congrats to Colonial Knife Co.
for a job well done!
And what about ARTISTRY IN KNIVES, our handmade knife centerspread?
The latest issue features a mix of well-known and lesser-known makers,
just how we like it: Don Cowles, Ron Nott, Joe Szilaski, John Howser,
Mark Laramie, Vince Evans, Steve Schwarzer, Don Parrish,
Dennis Friedly, and our old friend George Young the stellite
man (a nicer fellow you'll never meet).
As always, between the covers you'll find:
BERNARD LEVINE's WHUT IZZIT (our question-and-answer section)
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
CLASSIFIEDS (wanted, for sale, and miscellaneous)
CLUB CORNER (the ONLY current listing of knife clubs in print)
EVENTS CALENDAR (covering all knife shows, hammer-ins, & other events)
IRONS IN THE FIRE (the editor's monthly soapbox)
KNIFE WORLD truly is the ONLY publication covering the WORLD of KNIVES.
We even offer a free trial so you can see for yourself!

MISCELLANEOUS RAMBLINGS
________________________________________________
While they're already in the postal system and on their way to you,
we're still waiting to feast our eyes on the February issue described
above -- kind of hard to get used to the idea that moving our printing
to Missouri prevents us from standing there watching the fresh issues
roll off those web presses as we used to do every month, at Knoxville
Printers on Broadway. The dust, the noise, the fresh ink on our
hands... all gone now. Well, I don't miss SOME of that, but it sure
is hard to have to wait and the fruits of our labors!
In any case, our new best friends at the printers say that the February
issue looks even better than January did -- if that's possible -- so
we're chomping at the bit to see it. Those color pages ought to be
zingers, and the black and white pages are fresher and clearer than
ever before. Yeah, we're proud - but they do look great, don't they??!!
