headed out soon - the JANUARY 2008 issue of "KNIFE WORLD"
____________________________________________________________
JANUARY'S KNIFE WORLD contains the following articles:
... "CASE HANDLE MATERIALS: Some Old Time Favorites" by GARY MOORE
An overview of the materials found on older Case knives, from the
different varieties of bone (Green/Red/Winterbottom/Rogers) to stag,
exotic woods, tortoiseshell and pearls from mother of pearl to the
more exotic specimens.
... "VARIATIONS ON THE CANADIAN BELT KNIFE" by MICHAEL BLACK
It's likely that every knife enthusiast is familiar with the classic
D.H. Russell belt knife design, a Canadian classic. These days,
several manufacturers offer their own versions; here's a look at
what's available.
... "WORLD OF HUNTING KNIVES, PART 2" by PAT CASCIO
Some edged suggestions for those who enjoy spending the hunting
season in the woods -- a followup to the article in our March issue.
... "THE M3 TRENCH KNIFE, REVISITED" by FRANK TRZASKA
A detailed summary of the evolution of World War II's immensely
popular M3 trench knife and the associated M6, M8, and M8A1 scabbards,
loaded with dates and quantities manufactured. This is one you'll
want to copy into a notebook and save for future use.
... "WESTERN'S BLACK BEAUTIES" by RICHARD WHITE
A look at Western Cutlery's distinctive black-and-silver line of
hunting knives that is becoming as popular with collectors today as
it was with outdoorsmen almost fifty years ago.
... "MORAN MUSEUM BEGINS TO TAKE SHAPE" by KW Staff
At the time of William F. Moran's passing, KNIFE WORLD reported
on plans for the establishment of a permanent museum honoring the
"Master of the Forge." Those behind the effort are making progress,
and we check in to see what the future holds.
... "THE GRAHAM RAZEL" by M. WILLSON OFFUTT
Take one part razor and one part chisel, combine, and how much
useful knife is the result? Field Trial Editor Woody Offutt tests
this one out, and presents his findings.

MISCELLANEOUS RAMBLINGS
________________________________________________
I know that all of you must be tired of hearing me crab about the
U.S. Postal Service's "service" this year, so how's about I say
something positive for a change? Delivery problems with the October
and November issues have lessened somewhat, and December looks to be
better as well. We're still not quite where we would like to be, but
things are definitely improving and I hope the trend continues.
And while we've been pretty pleased with the COLOR printing we've
added this year, for the most part, we're still trying to improve
consistency with the results. With that thought in mind, the January
issue is the first KNIFE WORLD we've ever printed outside the state
of Tennessee, as we're trying out a Missouri printing facility this
month. The issues will be mailed from Missouri as well, and we're
anxious to see how quickly our subscribers receive them.
That's all for now -- Happy Holidays to all of you, and our very best
wishes for the New Year. We'll see you in 2008!
