http://www.knifeworld.com/knives2007.html

We still have a very few copies of "KNIVES 2006" at this time, but act fast... the publisher hasn't been 'remaindering' extras like they did ten years ago, and when they're gone they really will be gone. http://www.knifeworld.com/knives2006.html

By the way, we currently have most of the older KNIVES annuals in stock and can help out if your set isn't quite complete. To see what's available, check our out of print book list at: http://www.knifeworld.com/outofprdabo.html

• " KNIVES OF WAR " by Hughes, Jenkins, & Buerlein ________________________________________________________

This brand new title on military knives has REALLY been flying off the shelves -- in fact there have been some supply problems, but as of today we have plenty in stock.

Subtitled “An International Guide to Military Knives from WWI to the Present,” this new book reprints material from Hughes/Jenkins’ two "Primer" books with additional info on knives like the Gerber Mark II and the Raider Gung Ho knife. Edited by Robert Buerlein, author of "Allied Military Fighting Knives and the Men Who Made Them Famous" and current president of the Ek Commando Knife Company.

Click the link below for a detailed review of this book.

Softcover, 124 pp. $22.00 http://www.knifeworld.com/knivesofwar.html

• " ENCYCLOPEDIA OF MARBLE'S KNIVES AND SPORTING COLLECTIBLES " ________________________________________________________

This attractive book by Arni Dunathan really fulfills a long-felt need. Printed in full color, the title pretty well says it all... a complete encyclopedia of Marbles knives, axes, and related collectibles. Most of the coverage is dedicated to the products of the old Marbles, M.S.A. Co., and W.L. Marble eras, but there is also some coverage of the modern Marbles knives. Current collector values are included as well.

ADDED TO THE WEBSITE -- a detailed book review.

Hardcover, 172 pp. $59.95 http://www.knifeworld.com/marbles-encyc.html

• now in the mail - the NOVEMBER 2006 issue of "KNIFE WORLD" ____________________________________________________________

Before I say anything else, an "OOPS" is in order... somehow, every single page of the November issue of KNIFE WORLD says "November" at the top... except for the front cover, which reads "October". So, if you see an article on Case Second Cut Stag on the cover of your KW, it's the November issue... despite what the cover may say!

At least we can say that we're not the first to make this mistake; I think "Knives Illustrated" or "Edges" did this once, 10 or 15 years ago... but "aw shucks!"

Anyway, "NOVEMBER'S" KNIFE WORLD contains the following articles:

... "CASE SECOND CUT STAG" by GARY MOORE A groundbreaking article on the legendary handle material used by W.R. Case & Sons, with complete coverage of origins, all the controversies, and of course how to spot 'em. A super contribution for Case collectors!

... "THE MAGIC OF KNIFE STEEL" by MICHAEL BLACK This well done article attempts to sort out the many factors that affect the way any steel will perform as a knife blade -- quite effectively, I might add. Yes, good old fashioned 1095 high carbon steel can and has outperformed even a CPM steel in side by side cutting comparisons -- the facts are that there's a lot more to making a good blade than just choosing the latest hotshot steel!

... "THE A.B.S. in 2006" by B.R. HUGHES A look back at the year from the perspective of the American Bladesmith Society, with special emphasis on the annual meeting at the Blade Show and the 2006 ABS Hall of Fame inductions.

... "THE PICK TACTICAL KNIFE" by HARVEY REISBERG The author reports on a Bud Nealy creation that is currently seeing service in U.S. Special Forces, as well as finding its way into a few collections stateside.

... "THE MACHETE" by BOB CAMPBELL A look at inexpensive working machetes, including those produced by Cold Steel, Linder, and Ontario Knife Co.

... "CORRECTIONS... GRAB THE WHITE-OUT!" by FRANK TRZASKA In the course of researching and writing dozens of the best articles ever published on U.S. military knives, even the esteemed Mr. Trzaska is bound to have made an error or theorized wrong a few times. The mark of the true historian is a desire to set the record straight, which is exactly what Frank does in this article... important stuff! (Note: this piece also affects some articles published in our "Military Knives, A Reference Book")

... "OPENING DATE SET FOR NATIONAL KNIFE MUSEUM" It's true! This short "Knife News" feature reports on the Grand Opening celebration to be held on November 29, 2006 at the new National Knife Museum, located within the Smoky Mountain Knife Works store in Sevierville, TN (not far from the KNIFE WORLD offices). This date is the day prior to the start of Parker’s Knife Collector Service’s “Greatest Knife Show on Earth #31” just down the road in Pigeon Forge, TN -- the perfect opportunity to take in the Grand Opening, one of the best shows in the country, and of course the famous holiday lights of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. FOR MORE INFO on the NKM Grand Opening, email the NKCA at nkca@aol.com

... "ABS RAFFLE SUPPORTS 5th ANNUAL RENO EXPO" A brief item on another collector opportunity that supports the ABS.

BERNARD LEVINE's WHUT IZZIT investigates the Colonial / United "Giant (Jiant) Jack Knife" of WWII, two unusual folding pocket draw-knives, early folding lunch knives with similarly odd shaped blades, Cecil Pharr's "Flicket" opening device, Swiss Army knife locking mechanisms, a very interesting German or Bohemian multiblade, and a strange old style of putty knife that I've often seen sold as a "boot knife" or some other nonsense... knowledge truly is power, and where else can you learn this sort of thing?

And what about ARTISTRY IN KNIVES, our handmade knife centerspread? This month features DON HANSEN, JERRY VAN EIZINGA, JOSH SMITH, STEVEN RAPP, DAN WINKLER, MICHAEL RUTH, DONALD BELL, VINCE EVANS, JACK DAVENPORT, and a cute hunter by LIN RHEA (whose recent accomplishments also landed his name in the ABS article -- seems like he's everywhere these days!)

IRONS IN THE FIRE reprints an old "knifey" poem that Russ Case favored, while LETTERS TO THE EDITOR brings comments on a variety of topics (including, sadly, the passing of the great Corbet Sigman). You can see our exclusive CLUB CORNER for information on all the knife clubs across this country (plus a couple of foreign clubs for good measure). And don't forget the CLASSIFIEDS and the biggest knife related EVENTS CALENDAR anywhere.

KNIFE WORLD truly is the ONLY publication covering the WORLD of KNIVES. We even offer a free trial so you can see for yourself!

• MISCELLANEOUS RAMBLINGS ________________________________________________

In the course of switching over to an all-new database system for managing our subscriptions (quite a job!), I'm afraid that the KW Staff (especially me) has fallen a little behind in some areas, such as email. We've pretty well got the new system straightened out, so if we've dropped the ball on something you needed, please don't hesitate to contact and remind us so we can get back on track. What a summer it was... ack!!

We'll see you at the fall shows, and of course at the National Knife Museum's Grand Opening Celebration... I can't wait!!
