• " THE CASE CUTLERY DYNASTY - TESTED XX " - New and In stock! ________________________________________________________

Written by Case descendant and award-winning author Brad Lockwood, this hardcover, 304 page book is a must-have for all Case knife fans and history buffs.

This isn't a price or identification guide, but a book filled with innumerable interesting tales, vintage photographs, and plenty of historical facts about the Case family and the more than 30 cutlery companies their relations founded or otherwise contributed to. If the history of Case, Cattaraugus, Western, Platts etc. appeals to you, you'll love this book!

Hardcover, 304 pp. $19.95 http://www.knifeworld.com/casecutlery.html

• " THE FIRST COMMANDO KNIVES" --- BACK IN STOCK ________________________________________________________

by Prof. Kelly Yeaton, LTC Samuel L. Yeaton and Col. Rex Applegate

We used to sell this title some years back, and have picked it up again to see if it's still in demand. It covers the evolution of the Fairbairn-Sykes commando dagger from the first toolroom prototypes in Shanghai to the wartime F-S and USMC Raider knives and, ultimately, modern variations designed by Applegate (ties in nicely with the article in the September KNIFE WORLD). A nice little book with some information found nowhere else.

Softcover, 115 pp. $12.95 http://www.knifeworld.com/knifeworld/firstcommando.html

• " BRITISH & COMMONWEALTH MILITARY KNIVES “ - WHAT HAPPENED??? ________________________________________________________

We've sold a TON of these superb books since their publication, especially since the price was lowered to $24.95 a few months ago.

If you wanted one, I hope you didn't wait... because sometime after taking our last order, the publisher apparently went out of business without warning. I'm sorry folks, but as of right now, we can't get any more books!

We've got our eyes peeled for a new source, but in the meantime I'm afraid you're just out of luck on "BRITISH & COMMONWEALTH MILITARY KNIVES". It's a shame too, as it's such a fine book that everyone with the slightest interest in military knives ought to have a copy for their bookshelf...

• now in the mail - the OCTOBER 2005 issue of "KNIFE WORLD" ____________________________________________________________

October's KNIFE WORLD contains the following articles:

... "WHITTLING & THE WHITT-L-KRAFT" by DENNIS ELLINGSEN Another outstanding contribution by our Oregon correspondent, this one covering whittling kits in general and Cattaraugus' famous Official Boy Scout whittling knife in particular -- plus variations and related items that are probably as new to you as they were to us!

... "JOHN PERRY: THREE TIMES A WINNER" by B.R. HUGHES It takes a pretty special knifemaker to find success in both stock removal and bladesmithing, and a fellow that wins three different ABS awards at a single Blade Show need say no more. Meet one of the newest master smiths in this friendly Arkansan.

... "HOW TO CLEAN A KNIFE" by JOHN BREWSTER Have you ever wondered how a pro restores a battered antique knife to nearly new condition? Here's how one man does it, with no "secrets" left untold!

... "R.S. ELLIOTT ARMS FIGHTING KNIFE" by E.W. STONE, JR. Bill Stone reveals the details of yet another unmarked and previously unidentified World War Two private purchase knife -- another potential bargain for you military knife collectors to seek out. With the help of our contributors, we may just uncover them all!!

... "LOCKNIFE, INC" by HARVEY REISBERG This unusual Missouri-based sheath knife of the 1960s is just the sort of thing that collectors can get enthusiastic about, if enough information is available. Mr. Reisberg offers us a start, and wonders if anyone else can help fill in the blanks. (M'self, I wonder if there's some inspiration here for today's knifemakers...)

... "H & K's TACTICAL KNIVES" by BOB CAMPBELL A quick look at the new knives offered by firearms maker Heckler & Koch, produced by Oregon's Benchmade Knife Co.

... "TOMES MODEL 17" by M. WILLSON OFFUTT Our Field Trial man tries out a Scagel-inspired handmade by P.J. Tomes. How did it fare??? I'm going to make you wait until your issue arrives... :)

... "ABS RAFFLE SUPPORTS 2006 EXPO in RENO" How to get an original MORAN or KEESLAR for just $10 - or, if not, how to support the world's only all-forged blade knife show.

... "WILKINSON CLOSES SWORD FACTORY" Another closing in the knife world -- London's famed sword maker abandons knives and swords for more profitable lines. Make no mistake, it's a tough business these days...

As always, BERNARD LEVINE's WHUT IZZIT features another interesting assortment of oddities to perplex and delight... but my fingers are too tired to relate all the details. Be sure to have a look when your issue arrives!

IRONS IN THE FIRE continues the whittling theme with the suggestion that we could all use some whittling time, while ARTISTRY IN KNIVES features the handcrafted creations of WILLIAM ELLIS, DAVID SCHLUETER, JERRY GRICE, CHARLES SAUER, LARRY LUNN, ED VAN HOY, PAT CRAWFORD, JEROME ANDERS, BILL(ybob) SOWELL, and STEVE HILL (call up Steve and order a knife if you would, he's been waiting a long while to get this photo in KNIFE WORLD).

Of course there's also LETTERS TO THE EDITOR, our exclusive CLUB CORNER (free listings for all nonprofit knife collecting and knifemaking organizations), the CLASSIFIEDS, and the biggest knife related EVENTS CALENDAR anywhere (and we do mean ANYWHERE).

KNIFE WORLD really is the ONLY publication covering the WORLD of KNIVES. We even offer a free trial so you can see for yourself!

• MISCELLANEOUS RAMBLINGS ________________________________________________

ATTENTION:

FLORIDA. WISCONSIN. MARYLAND. GEORGIA. TENNESSEE. MONTANA. WASHINGTON. NORTH CAROLINA. KENTUCKY. OKLAHOMA. CONNECTICUT. NEVADA. ARKANSAS.

If your state is listed above, or if you live near one of the above states -- for pete's sake, get out to one of the knife events listed in KNIFE WORLD's Events Calendar for the month of October. Really, I don't understand how some folks can sit comfortably at home, armed with the knowledge that there's a knife event going on across town. Have these people no concept of "fun" ??? ;)

I'll see you at the Moran Hammer-In next weeekend, or Ron Claiborne's Hammer-In the following weekend, or at the NKCA Shepherdsville, KY knife show the weekend after that. Stop by and say "Hello"!

SUBSCRIBERS ONLY: I just got another call from a reader asking when his subscription will expire -- so here's the "secret" way to tell from your mailing label: in the line of numbers above your name, the FIRST FOUR DIGITS are the month and year of expiration; i.e. 1005 is the code for a subscription that expires with the October 2005 issue. [ If your code really is 1005 and you don't want to miss an issue, go directly here and don't delay, you haven't much time: http://www.knifeworld.com/knifwormag.htm ]

(And no, this info isn't a secret, we're just not sure where to fit it into each jam-packed issue!)

Keep knife'n--
