• " RANDALL MADE KNIVES - A TIMELINE “ - New! ________________________________________________________

We reviewed this first-class offering from the Wickershams a few months back, and finally broke down and decided to offer it ourselves. For those of you who missed the review, this 12x25" two-sided laminated reference sheet folds neatly into a back pants pocket, and allows you to date any given Randall knife with a good degree of confidence, wherever you need it. It's a superb, handy resource for all Randall fans!

Laminated, two-sided 12x25” Reference Sheet (folds to about 4" x 12") $20.00 http://www.knifeworld.com/randalltimeline.html

(P.S. If you missed the full review in KNIFE WORLD, you can find it at the link above.)

• " BRITISH & COMMONWEALTH MILITARY KNIVES “ - SALE! ________________________________________________________

If ever there was a GREAT knife book that has not gotten its due, that book must be Ron Flook's BRITISH & COMMONWEALTH MILITARY KNIVES. Beyond doubt the finest book ever addressing the military knives of Great Britain, Canada, India, Australia, and New Zealand, plenty of coverage is given to such subjects as Fairbairn/Sykes (commando) knives, Robbins-Dudley knives, folders, bolos, and machetes of all types, and everything else you can imagine -- fakes and reproductions too! Over 550 photos!!

This book is truly the "Cole" book of British military knives, and everyone with an interest in military knives of any type ought to have a copy. Though worth every penny of the $49.95 retail, the publisher has temporarily dropped the price and we are following suit: $24.95, for as long as their sale lasts.

• " REMINGTON KNIVES, PAST & PRESENT “ - New! ________________________________________________________

Ron Stewart busted his tail to get together all of the vintage Remington catalogs he could, sort out every single pattern listed, and put them in order, with illustrations. Then, he did the same with the second generation Remingtons that appeared starting in 1982. Then he did the same with the Remington year posters that knife fans often collect as accessories. The end result is "wow!"

A VERY complete price and identification guide to Remington knives, and one that should prove useful to anyone with an interest. Best of all, it's cheap! No wonder these have been flying out the door....

Softcover, 304 pp. $16.95 http://www.knifeworld.com/remingtonknives.html

• ALMOST GONE !!! ____________________________________________________________

I don't know if most knife enthusiasts notice, but knife books are a lot like knives in one regard. When they are no longer available, in many cases, the prices shoot skyward. For example, let's take the book on Case Classics, which just went out of print a couple of years ago. Back then, $30 or less would get you a brand new one. Today, $100 is the going rate for good used copies, and I have heard of them bringing over $300 on eBay. (And no, don't expect them to be reprinted... what's out there is all there will ever be.) I could name a few dozen other knife books that are in similar demand.

So if you want to save a few bucks, the key is to not wait too long before you buy the books you need. Usually there's no warning that the books are about to vanish, but sometimes you'll get a tip...

• now in the mail - the JUNE 2005 issue of "KNIFE WORLD" ____________________________________________________________

June's KNIFE WORLD contains the following articles:

... "FOLDING JUMBO CAMP KNIVES" by DENNIS ELLINGSEN He-B-Dennis just keeps coming up with interesting subjects for our readers, and this article on the jumbo versions of the four-blade utility or "scout" knife presents some beauties. You expected less??

... "UNITED CUTLERY: UNDER THE RADAR" by EDW. C. BELL A lot of folks have heard of United Cutlery, but few know everything being done under the United umbrella. Collectible, fantasy, sporting, and everyday working cutlery of all types, of course, but would you believe Tennessee-made knives too? Here's the scoop!

... "WESTERN CUTLERY'S MOST UNUSUAL PRODUCT" by RICHARD WHITE Yes, cutlery companies have produced some unusual items over the years. With this recent discovery, Western collectors now have a fly fishing case to watch out for.

... "THE BOWIE: THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE" by BOB CAMPBELL A look at America's most famous knife as a working tool, with photos of custom and factory examples alike.

... "THE ORDNANCE DEPARTMENT IN WWI" by FRANK TRZASKA The Ordnance Dept. had a big task at hand in trying to prepare for The War to End all Wars. Trzaska explains how they handled their job, and the edged weapons produced by these efforts.

... "THE SPYDERCO MILITARY" by M. WILLSON OFFUTT III Woody Offutt places Spyderco's popular Military in the hands of a Secret Service Agent. How did it fare? Get a copy of this month's "Knife World" and find out!

plus short pieces on VICTORINOX' purchase of WENGER (in case you hadn't heard), the opening of BUCK's Idaho plant, and an upcoming Parent-Child Weekend for aspiring bladesmiths.

also, Book Reviews of "Remington Knives, Past & Present" and "Big Book of Pocket Knives, Second Ed."

BERNARD LEVINE's WHUT IZZIT focuses this month on theatre and/or workshop knives of WWII, including some information on recent Australian fakes that could save you a bunch of money; while ARTISTRY IN KNIVES features CLIFF PARKER, BURT FOSTER, T.M. OVEREYNDER, SHAUN & SHARLA HANSEN, STEVE JOHNSON, JODY MULLER, DON NORRIS, LEE FERGUSON, STEVE JERNIGAN and a really neat set by JOE HYTOVICK. IRONS IN THE FIRE reasons that there's plenty of life left in America's cutlery manufacturers. Of course there's also LETTERS TO THE EDITOR, our exclusive CLUB CORNER (free listings for all nonprofit knife collecting and knifemaking organizations), the CLASSIFIEDS, and the biggest knife related EVENTS CALENDAR anywhere (and we do mean ANYWHERE).

KNIFE WORLD truly is the ONLY publication covering the WORLD of KNIVES. [I'm sure that the Iceland of knives is great, but why limit yourself?]

• MISCELLANEOUS RAMBLINGS ________________________________________________

Of course the Blade Show is coming up this weekend -- mecca when it comes to custom knives. It's unfortunate that the higher and higher table fees have pushed out nearly everything but the handmade crowd, the only folks left that will pay $400 a table or whatever the going rate is these days. We'll be there of course; the blur going by your table as we track down more scoops and stories for the upcoming issues. But you won't tie us to a table with so much to do!

And for those of you who have donated knives to our "Save a Life With a Knife, 2005" campaign -- THANK YOU. We've got another BIG boxful of knives going out to our troops this week, and I'm sure they'll be pleased to have them.

** Questions or comments? Letters to the KNIFE WORLD editor? ** Send them along to "knifepub@knifeworld.com". We'd love to hear from you!
