vintage photographs of the Case knife factories, employees,
family members, etc., from the late 1800s to the present day.
Well done and reasonably priced, this is a enjoyable little book
for the nightstand or your favorite easy chair.

• WEBSITE UPDATES
________________________________________________
Pretty minor updates this month. Removed titles from the website that
it doesn't look like we'll be able to obtain anymore: GEORGE SCHRADE
& HIS ACCOMPLISHMENTS, KNIFE ALBUM, and the 1977 ROMANCE OF KNIFE
COLLECTING PRICE GUIDE.
Cross referenced our U.S. MILITARY KNIVES (etc) PRICE GUIDE to the
various books indexed in it.
Shifted some titles around on the COLLECTIBLE KNIVES pages.
That's about it...

• now in the mail - the JUNE 2006 issue of "KNIFE WORLD"
____________________________________________________________
June's KNIFE WORLD contains the following articles:
... "THE OLD ELEPHANT TOENAIL" by SCOTT KING
A superb study of the 'sunfish' pattern by one of its biggest fans
in Mr. King, who heads up http://www.elephanttoenails.com when he's
not working, or writing informative articles like this one.
Not to be missed!
... "BLADESMITH SHAWN ELLIS" by DOC WACHOLZ
Profile of another young, talented Arkansas 'smith in his second
go'round with knifemaking.
... "A SOLDIER'S KNIFE" by JIM WILLIAMSON
Thoughts on practical choices for soldiers bound for duty, from the
longtime KW correspondent. (Jim's advice has worked out well for his
son, who's spent more than his share of time in Iraq.)
... "RAZOR BLADE FOLDING KNIVES" by MICHAEL BLACK
Often forgotten, slip-joint knives with "razor" blades have long
offered their owners the benefits of one handed opening. Author
Black presents three modern examples, and evaluates their performance.
... "ANDERSON KNIFE CO." by FRANK TRZASKA
Frank does it again! Another inside scoop from the master of
military knife research - the story of the Anderson Knife Co., their
failed attempt at a government contract, the newly discovered knife
"cache" and how to tell the difference between a WWII-finished
Anderson and one recently completed. (Articles like this make me
wonder how some collectors can afford NOT to subscribe to KW...)
... "FIELD TRIAL: KALASHNIKOV BY BOKER" by M. WILLSON OFFUTT
Boker's new tactical folder design, approved by Mikhail Kalashnikov
of AK47 fame, gets the workout from our Field Trial man.
Detailed BOOK REVIEWS of:
IMAGES OF AMERICA - W.R. CASE & SONS
ART IN STEEL 2006/2007
(a nicely done directory of the DMG = German Knifemakers Guild)
... KNIFE NEWS features Thomas Lofvenmark's versatile EDGEPAL
Sharpening System, and a new version of an old classic in the form
of CANAL STEET CUTLERY's Ring Opener penknife.
BERNARD LEVINE's WHUT IZZIT brings us another assortment of unusual
knives, including more on a fake HSB/OVB (look out for those strange
etches!), an interesting Aussie sheath knife, more on DITTERT
multiblades, and a wierd American folder with a clever locking
mechanism, dating from the 1950s.
And what about ARTISTRY IN KNIVES, our handmade knife centerspread?
This month features ART TYCER, JOHN BARTLOW, STEPHEN MACKRILL,
DAVE LARSEN, "PETE" MOON, MICHAEL TYRE, CHARLIE & HARRY MATHEWS,
MIKE & JANDY KILEY, STEVE MYERS, and a great looking dagger from
the equally lovely AUDRA DRAPER.
IRONS IN THE FIRE contemplates the evidence that the famed cutlers
of yesteryear had their share of bad days too, while LETTERS TO THE
EDITOR revisits Ek knives and dealers leaving shows early, and
provides a healthy pat on the back to all of the great people in
Chicago's AECA Club. You can see our exclusive CLUB CORNER for how
to join AECA and the other knife clubs across this country (plus a
couple of foreign clubs for good measure). And don't forget the
CLASSIFIEDS and the biggest knife related EVENTS CALENDAR in print.
KNIFE WORLD really is the ONLY publication covering the WORLD of KNIVES.
We even offer a free trial so you can see for yourself!

• MISCELLANEOUS RAMBLINGS
________________________________________________
The editor is recovering from the deluge of Spring knife events,
and choosing to relax this weekend. But interested parties should
find a good time at the NKCA Show in Springfield, Missouri this
Saturday and Sunday. Stop in and say hello to Darrell and Peggy,
and I'll gladly reimburse someone expenses incurred for one bag
of unshelled sunflower seeds if they'll hand them to Miss Lisa
with my compliments.
Have fun!
